The NGO Safety Programme is recruiting for the following position:-

Regional Operations Analyst Specialist

Title: Regional Operations Analyst Specialist - Somalia NGO consortium/ NSP

Location: Nairobi with frequent travel to Somalia and Somaliland

Start of Contract & Duration: February 2010 - January 2011 (1 year renewable)

Purpose

. To reduce the risks posed to programe personnel and assets of NGOs operating operating in Somalia through the provision of specialized, coordinated and focused security management support.
Primary Functions:-
• Sourcing, processing and analysis of complex information for the production of; reports, presentations, briefings, advisories and position papers.
• Provision of advice to NGO Consortium members and other humanitarian agencies as may be identified.
• Manage by Performance Objectives NSP Field Staff, with a clear understanding of the pressures associated with operating in hostile environments.
• Travel to Somalia (security permitting) to gather information, train field based staff and support humanitarian .agencies.
• Liaison with relevant Multi Agency Actors (UN, governments, traditional leaders etc.) Lead in complex negotiations at multiple levels.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
• Masters Level degree or undergraduate degree in Journalism, or security related disciplines with 3 to 4 years experience will also be considered.
• 1 - 5 years of experience in information sourcing, processing, analysis and reporting.
• Experience in a decision making capacity responsible for security management.
• Management experience in humanitarian operations.
• Management experience in critical incident management.
• 1 - 2 years of Somalia experience.

Desired:

• Written and spoken Somali
• Well developed networks for information in Somalia and regional hubs such as Nairobi.
